The pattern of God for marriage begins in the book of Genesis. In the beginning, God created man and woman (Gen. 1:27). After mans formation (Gen. 2:8), the Lord planted a garden where He placed man to dress and KEEP it (Gen. 2:15). Dress, in Hebrew, is defined as to work or to serve. Therefore, mans first duty assigned by the Lord God was to WORK in the garden. Secondly, he was to keep it which meant he was to guard and protect the garden and the inhabitants thereof. He was not only protecting the Lord Gods garden, but his home because this is where the Lord had placed him (Gen 2:8).
